How to build trust with new clients

Portfolios help clients understand what you do. When you have many projects in line, or have completed, photos and videos help demonstrate to others what type of product or service you provide. When things are unclear, it makes the overall situation unfavorable.

Communication of information is the key to success. The more information you can provide upfront for your potential clients, the better they will have in knowing they can trust you and/or your company.

This goes both ways. A business should also gather enough specific information about the project, so they are clear on the client’s expectations. Without all of the information, your company may not be able to complete a project to the client’s satisfaction.

Not all information is good. Customers don’t want to be sold. There are many businesses that already use these old sales tactics, so why would you do the same thing, if you want their attention?

A good example of being different, is listening. A good salesperson knows how to sell, but a great salesperson knows how to listen. When you are really listening, you no longer try to sell anything.

Project Gallery

A project gallery is a brief overview of the past and current projects you currently have. Projects can be showcased upfront in a text, in email, on a website, during a phone call, and in an ad campaign. Not all of these are effective alone. Most of the time, you have to use them in succession.

Galleries can contain before and after pictures, progression videos, detailed lists, templates, and basically anything that helps a client make an informed decision on their own. The can also be found on social media and networking platforms, as long as they’re original works from your company.

There are cases where you can use other’s resources to showcase your skills, but that requires a contract. Contracting isn’t hard if you know what you’re doing. If you don’t know, then find someone who does know and learn the art of it.

Photos

Photos are great speakers. They say one picture alone can speak a thousand words. You heard of that saying, right?

Photos capture what is needed to be seen. It emphasizes the importance of what you’re trying to talk about. Photos also need to be clear and have a wide view. This helps show an overall perspective of what is being or needs to be done and what can be expected.

Without a clear visual, the communication can be difficult to understand and the results may not match the expectations of the client.

Videos

Sometimes there isn’t enough time to take photos. That’s where video becomes the best case scenario. You don’t have to make it flashy, but it should demonstrate your skills without a doubt.

Not all videos are needed. You can have one great video that gives a good understanding of what to expect. Sometimes, having two separate videos; one of a broad view, one of an up close view, can emphasize the process.

There are video editing apps and software that can assist with making videos more eye catching. But remember, the whole purpose of the video is really to demonstrate how things are done.
